Cairns BoatSafe Training does charge additional fees:
An extra licence fee will be charged by Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) for processing your application. This fee is currently a “once off” fee in Queensland. Do note that other states in Australia have 5 year or 10 year renewal fees.
Currently this cost is $123.85. Your QLD Drivers Licence will be updated with your qualification or you will be issued a Marine Identity Card.
Your Photo identification (i.e. Passport, Drivers Licence, Student ID, Adult Proof of Age Card) is required to be sighted by Cairns Boat Safe Training and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) office.
The paperwork we give you is only valid for 6 months. If you do not go to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) before its expiry, you will be required to do the whole course again.
Note
– You cannot drive a boat until your paperwork has been registered with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) or in the case of country areas, lodged with your local courthouse or police station. You can also lose your QLD boat licence if you lose your QLD Drivers Licence.
The Boat Safe Recreational Boat Course or Recreational Marine Drivers Licence (RMDL) Course includes theory (face to face theory in the classroom or online theory in the privacy of your own home), exam and practical on water instruction.
This is offered as a one day course, with the first 6 hours as theory, and then we move out to the water for hands on training.
Tuition is personally tailored to suit the needs of the client and on completion of this course you will be issued with a Queensland Transport Statement of competency.
You will need to present this certificate to a Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) Customer Service Office for the issue of your boat licence. Country areas may need to obtain their boat licence from their local courthouse or police station.
